About Us...

I had no intention of having this page on LiftAwayFat.com.  But everyone I talked to said an "About Us" page is necessary.  People want to know who is behind the website.  I also resisted having my picture on the website.  Why scare people innocently clicking around the web?   Here are my thoughts.
 .

First of all, LiftAwayFat.com is not "About Us", meaning me.  It's "About Us", meaning you and I.  The only reason LiftAwayFat.com exists is to help you realize that your leaner, stronger, & healthier body is extremely important.  How you feel about your body can affect every other aspect of your life.  Since it really matters to you, I want you to know it matters to me and everyone else in our LiftAwayFat.com community as well.

 .
Secondly, I checked out other websites, and it seems the "About Us" pages are there to fluff up whoever published the website.  That's just not going to happen here.  I don't fluff.  There's nothing to fluff.  I'm simply a guy who has been in the health and fitness business since the 1970's because I love helping people re-discover how wonderful an active, fit and healthy life really is.  I know from decades as a trainer that anyone can get their body in good shape.  It doesn't matter if you grew up watching Popeye and Olive Oyl, Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig, or Alvin & the Chipmunks on Saturday mornings.  Anyone can do it.  Yes, that means you.
 .
It has always bothered me, however, when I talk with people my age and even much younger, that they have basically given up on their bodies.  They have come to believe that carrying around a lot of Excess Body Fat, feeling knee pain after a little walking, worrying about diabetes, heart problems and just feeling "old", is just how life is.
 .
Absolutely not true!  I know that your life can be much more than that.
.
To answer the need for people to become trimmer, fitter and healthier, I started LiftAwayFat.com in 2003.  But, content to live without constantly tweeting or tooting, I didn't published the website.  I also wrote articles and books about natural health and fitness whenever I saw another crazy diet pill ad promising "Lose 20 Pounds in 2 Weeks!!!".  I knew, as we all really know, that they just did not work as advertised.
.
You need the truth.  The simple facts.  The reasons.  The why - that ours is the first generation to suffer so much from the terrible effects inactivity has on our health.  I want you to get the realization, the firm belief, that a healthy body can open up an incredibly satisfying life for you.  Once you see that your leaner, healthier body is only about you, even habits you've had since Fonzie ruled TV can change.
.
That's where LiftAwayFat.com comes in.  You can see for yourself how good it feels to have to buy a new pair of jeans in a smaller size.  How much satisfaction you can get from keeping up with your grown children.  Actually feeling good after a game of tag with your grandkids.  And getting off the meds.
For many years, I kept thinking that with the good efforts of the good folks at the American Heart Association, the American Dietetic Association,  the American Medical Association, the National Institutes of Health, the American Council of Sports Medicine, the CDC, the FDA, lots of dedicated Fitness Trainers, and caring bigwigs like Michelle Obama, people would get the message.  But the healthy message is drowned out by the multi-million dollar marketing campaigns of the diet pill companies.  The hop-till-you-drop exercise programs that leave you sweaty and discouraged.  The celebrity diet-du-jour that forgot to tell you to pick up:
.
1. a gourmet chef
2. a combination personal trainer, massage therapist, and healthy fruit-smoothie preparer,
3. personal assistants to coo "You're the greatest!" and bring fluffy towels scented with fresh herbs,
4. a movie contract, talk show appearance, or magazine cover for motivation.
 .
I just can't sit back and let the "quick weight loss" crowd continue to harm people.  I know what those of you 40 and 50, and those of us 60++, need to do to lose what you really want to lose, Excess Body Fat.  While rebuilding lean, calorie-burning muscle, getting stronger, and actually becoming healthier.

You're not going to give up on your body.  We won't let you.

It's pretty simple. Birthdays become fun again when you are still able to do the things you have always done.  Dance, walk, run, hike, golf, garden, swim, ski, you want to be able to do whatever fun stuff comes your way.  Especially the activity so many feel is vital to sustaining life, Power Shopping!
.
I want you to re-discover the joys of living your life, not just watching others enjoy their lives on TV.  The great thing is, doing fun activities yourself does magical things for your body.  Activity re-builds lean, trim muscle and lean muscle is metabolically active so it burns lots of calories.  Plus, those fun activities themselves burn even MORE calories.  Sign me up!

LiftAwayFat.com is more than a labor of love, it's a labor of necessity.

So, here is some "About Us".
The fact is, I have been around the health and fitness block many, many times.
I was lifting barbells before Jane Fonda was Barbarella.
.
I first worked as a Fitness Trainer at a big city health club back in the 1970's.   Over the decades, I've worked as a certified personal trainer, hospital lab technician and phlebotomist, local cable health & fitness TV producer and host, health & fitness newsletter editor, and fitness business owner.  I have seen every new diet "miracle", and their negative effects on our bodies.  I have also not seen any of them fulfill their advertised purpose;  to help you lose "scale weight" and keep it off ...long term.
 .
I have been fortunate to have trained many exceptionally nice people over the decades, from Doctors of Medicine, Dental Surgery, and Chiropractic, and a few PhD's, to people training for local fire and police department fitness tests, federal law enforcement and armed forces evaluations, and all kinds of sports.  Working people, retired people, people with kids and jobs and not a lot of time.  People experiencing the blessings of pregnancy and adoption.  People trying to get back on their feet after surgery or debilitating disease, who helped me see that true strength of character often occurs without public fanfare.  People of all ages, all sizes, all abilities.  People who gave me some of the most personally rewarding experiences of my life.
But for every person I saw face to face, I knew there were many millions of people who were frustrated with their bodies, and their health.  Year after year, more and more.

So I finally clicked "Publish Website".
